Makeup 101

Hello lovely people,

I do sincerely apologise for being so inactive this past week and a bit, I’ve had an extremely busy time with assignments and commitments. Today’s post is going to be all about the basics of makeup, if your new to makeup or just want to learn about it, continue reading…

I started wearing makeup more frequently when I was about 10, back then it was a simple BB cream and some clear mascara, but it made me feel extremely confident in myself at that age. Makeup for me is all about experimenting, even from a young age. Makeup is supposed to be fun, because at the end of the day, you take it off and start with a fresh ‘canvas’. People can wear makeup for many different reasons, and there is no wrong or right reason.

Fix & Protect Primer By Rimmel

After cleansing, continue with your skin routine as normal and after applying moisturiser, start with primer as your makeup base. Primer is used to help keep your makeup on all day. This particular primer by Rimmel London is my favourite, its an ‘anti pollution’ and ‘anti stress’ primer that helps protect your skin while making your makeup base look amazing!

Revlon Colourstay foundation

This foundation is my favourite by far! It’s for normal to dry skin but there is also a foundation in this range for oily skin. After applying primer, you can use your fingers, a buffing brush or my personal preference is a beauty blender or sponge. You can pick a beauty blender up for around $4 at Kmart.

Natio Tinted Moisturiser

This is a great alternative for someone just starting out with makeup or when you cant be bothered to put on foundation, you can also use this with or without primer. Its always important with foundation or a tinted moisturiser to make sure you get a colour as close to your skin colour as possible, when buying foundation, test the colour on your chest or neck, as that’s the colour you want for your face. Usually in places like Priceline they have people to help you match your foundation.

Rimmel London ‘Wonderfull’ Mascara in Black

My favourite topic of makeup by far is mascara, and this mascara is beyond amazing. It’s infused with Argan oil to help condition your lashes, and after using it for around 3 months, I’ve noticed my lashes have actually grown and feel less fragile. There are so many different mascaras out there, you just have to find the right one for your personal preference.

Depending on your preferences, you may just want to wear lip balm, or you may want to go all out with an amazing coloured lipstick. I’m definitely into having an extremely natural look as well as going all out with a bold colour. This lipstick is the perfect in-between for me, with a pretty pale pink colour. Depending on your skin tone, you may also want to take a look at what colours suit you best.

E.L.F Highlighter

Even though highlighter isn’t a basic, I wanted to include it as it’s one of my favourite parts of my base. I have searched for this highlighter for ages, as it is Jeffree Star approved. I found it in Kmart for $8 which I was so excited about. Once finally getting my hands on this amazing product, I haven’t stopped using it and have nothing to complain about.

When starting with makeup, there is no need to go out to your most expensive makeup store and spend a heap of money, start with simple products and work your way up when you want too. Honestly, most of the products I own are “drugstore” products that are all under $50 and they all work amazingly!

Hope you enjoyed this post,

Sincerely,

Sophie xo
